Lately...

I've been spending my days with these handsome boys:

We have had a lot of fun! Every year on the fourth of July, we head on over to Salmon, ID for a serious celebration. My husband grew up in Salmon and some days I find myself claiming to be from there as well (a far stretch from Nampa). I never in a million years thought that I'd enjoy riding 4-wheelers, attending derby's, feeding horses, or even chopping wood, but somehow I transfer from the tiny seamstress that I am into a country girl that just can't get enough.

My boys have been such troopers traveling to the dozen quilt shops that we've been to. I've really been enjoying this experience of going to various shops and meeting the incredible ladies that keep them all together. Most recently I made a stop in Utah. We were on our way home from my nieces and nephew's baptism, when I asked my dad to stop at Quilter's Haven. We pulled into the parking lot just as Joni was getting into her car, talk about timing!

I ran over to her and began introducing myself, some quilt owners would consider this to have been a crazy person and sent me in the other direction, but not Joni! She unlocked her store and invited me in.

You know that scene on Shopaholic, where she walks into the department store and describes something about melting butter, that was TOTALLY me! Had I not been trying to make an impression, I would have thrown dozens of bolts on the table and instructed her to start cutting. The fabric did not end! I was trying so hard to stay focused and not get distracted with her selection (seriously I was making notes in my head of who designed what so I could google them at home).

So anyway, she took a look at my patterns and embraced them like I do with my three year old when he skins his knee. She said my Glam Bag was like the new Swing Bag (ya know, like green is the new pink?). I nearly fell on my knees. I mean seriously, when someone says something that sweet, you know you're destined to be friends. Right? I don't know what the future holds, but for here and now I am very content.

I hope that everyone is enjoying the patterns and more than anything I love getting your emails as you finish each bag. That makes me rest easy at night. I have some exciting endeavors coming up and I hope that all of my readers will keep reading and get your friends to participate because I think we can really have a lot of fun. I've gathered a few ideas from your posts and emails and collaborated them, so stay tuned. OK, so I'm in a total slump for blogging ideas. I've considered a few giveaway ideas or contests or games to do but I just can't seem to find the right thing to do. One Stitch at a Time...

So, I'm about ready to be go off to the fair but I just wanted to post a few of the bags that I've come up with over the past few weeks. This top one has won over a few hearts already...

Nampa here we come!

It has begun! There's something about craft fairs that I just love! Last year I thought about not doing them anymore because they aren't such a neccessity anymore, but I can't explain how much I love them. Maybe it's just the break from the kids, or the socializing and meeting new people, I'm not sure, but they're just so fun for me. This year I'm going to Nampa for the first time. My brother Klint will be there doing a little advertising as well...should be a blast. 2 Fabulous!

This is the second edition to my Fabulous Collection. I think...I think that I can rate this bag right next to my Glam Bag! I love the versatility of it and I hope you love it as well! It's designed to be used as either a small handbag or a larger bag to carry more. There are NO snaps or buttons on this bag, it's made completely out of fabric and so cozy and thick!

Quiet Books and Potatoe Pals!

I decided that we should kick off the new Spring Collection with some Quiet Books! My best friend Roni and I have made these for a couple of years and sold them around at craft fairs. These are just a few samples of what we have. The page layouts are basically the same for every book. There are six pages per book. You can mix and match your pages if you prefer, just let me know in your email. Fabric selections vary as well. Quiet books start at $45. Customs are available upon request for additional charge.

We also sell single page layouts of our Potatoe Pals. They are a one page book and include pieces for both a boy and girl potatoe pal. $25.

Free Pattern and Idea!

I'm not sure if you've ever noticed the travel pillows on my side-bar, but I've decided that it would be lots of fun to post this pattern on my blog since summer is quickly approaching. My boys love their little pillows and take them everywhere. The idea came to me when we were traveling to both our Grandma's one weekend and Ruger's little head kept bopping down in the car while he was sleeping. It was then that I realized these boys needed something fun and comfy! So I made them each a travel pillow. This project can be accomplished in one hour without kids and about four hours with kids!

You will need:

• 15 inches of the softest minkie you can find.
• 8 inches of fun patterned fabric.
• batting
• velcro

Tabs:

Begin by cutting your 8" of fabric in two 4" strips. Set aside one strip. Take the other strip and cut 12, 4" by 4" squares, as shown.Fold each square in half diagonally (corner to corner) and then fold again into the shape of a triangle, as shown. Handle:

Take your other 4" strip and fold in half length wise, right sides together. Sew around the edges, leaving a small opening. Untuck, with right sides out, press, and stitch around all four edges. You can also line your handle with batting for extra security if so desired.

Next, you will take your soft fabric and cut out two, 15" by 15" squares and one 15" by 11" rectangle with a salvage edge. Using the rectangle and one square you are going to sew on your pocket, as shown. Just sew around three edges of the rectangle leaving the top open, make sure your salvage edge is on the top, for your pocket opening.
Next you're going to use your other square and sew down all of your tabs around the edges. I put four tabs on three of the four edges of the pillow. Point all of them inward, as shown, and sew them all down.
Using the square that you sewed your pocket onto, you're going to center your handle and sew it down, underneath the pocket. Also, you will center and sew your velcro in place on the pocket, as shown.
For your final step, you need to place both of your squares right sides together, pin in place, with the tabs facing inward and sew down around all of the edges leaving a three inch opening. Untuck your pillow with right sides out and stuff it with batting to desired consistency. Hand stitch or machine stitch your opening shut.

You have now completed your travel pillow!

Duvet Cover:

This was my personal project for this week. My husband and I have been going back and forth trying to decide just what we want for our bed. He's really tall, so he wanted something long that would always cover his feet and I just wanted something really soft and pretty. So, we purchased a king size down-alternative comforter for our queen size bed and then I made a duvet cover. I picked out one-single fabric (I'm not much into quilting) and then I used a sheet for the bottom of the cover. I wanted to stay within a reasonable budget and this was the best way to do it and it turned out perfectly for our bed. To do this all you have to do is measure the comforter that you want for your bed and make the cover about two inches wider and longer. We love it! My next project is matching pillows or non-matching, I haven't decided yet!

Meet Sawyer!

So you may be wondering what all of this hype is about and so I decided that it was time for me to introduce my little guy, Sawyer. I have two boys and he's the youngest. Sawyer was born with a condition known as Achondroplasia, Dwarfism. I have a similar disorder, and so he's inherited it from me. This means that his arms and legs will never grow to their full potential. He'll stop growing probably around four feet. But I must say that Sawyer has been one of the greatest blessings in my life. He is a little baby genius (as most Achondroplasia babies are) and is just so loveable! Growing up, I went to Shriners Hospital in SLC and they provided all of their services for free, including the limb lengthening procedure, where I gained six inches in height for adaptation purposes. Shriners was the most incredible experience for me and I have always wanted to pay them back. Now that Sawyer has also become a patient there, I feel even more indebted to them. A lot of these babies need everything from CT's to MRI's to Sleep Studies and PT, as well as tonsilectomies, the list goes on and Shriners provides all of this for the children free of charge! Can you believe that? So now, here on my blog I'm hosting this Extravaganza, in hopes of raising money to pay them back. Isn't this bag just FABULOUS? I came up with the design one night while hanging out with my mom. She had on this shirt with some stellar cuffs and I thought, "Hey, that'd make an awesome bag!" One week later, this is what came out of it. This bag is so versatile, it's rediculous!
