I have NO idea what I'm doing!

Join me won't you? As I embarrass myself terribly and bare my quilting soul. I have this project that's waiting for me in my sewing pile and it's a super-fantistic one for market, but it involves just a tinsy-bit of quilting. And since I've never actually quilted in my whole entire life, I thought maybe I'd practice. And amongst my practicing, I decided that I would make a quilt for my boys to take to Shriners and donate to a little girl (because it's black and pink of course). I was quite frightened to discover that I had enough black and white scraps to make an entire quilt...I mean really? I think that's like border-line obsession. I should really cut back.
Anyway, this is what some poor little girl is going to receive as a visitor gift and I hope she doesn't notice my quilting (which quite frankly looks like scribble). Because here's the truth, I still have an entire box of quilts that people gave to me while I was at Shriners. Some of the quilts were from family and some were given to me off of the quilt shelf in the hospital. There's one in particular that has handprints on it and I remember the nurse noticing my obsession with it and telling me that I could take it home...I was so excited! I don't know why I loved it so much, but I did and then there's another one that Betsy made for me and in the corner where they all signed their names, there are scribble marks from my once toddler niece...so I'm hoping my boys can pass a little of this love along.

Your quilting looks great. My 15 month old grand datughter didn't get her quilt from grandma until she was 1 year old because i was afraid I'd mess up quilting it. I hope to be faster on my the next little baby that is coming this summer.

that turned out cute! some little girl will love it, and i bet it will be her favorite blanket :)

did it take forever to sew the squares? i have been staring at my fabric for 2 months now, i am too scared to cut it, and even more scared to sew it, and i'm not even doing squares! help!

Oh Tiff, it's really cute! Trace has a few quilts/blankets from his trips to the Children's House and surgeries at WVU Hospitals. What a nice thing to donate! My mom's church women's society makes small afghans and blankets and donates to the same day surgery unit at WVU Hospitals.

The squares were the easy part! It was the quilting and binding that were a little more difficult. I imagine we will get better at this over time Alicia! ;) Just like cooking!

Your quilt is so cute! How sweet to give it as a gift to a little girl at Shriners! Simon has a small afghan that a group of ladies at a local church made for him while in the NICU, and it is very special to us.

I think it looks great! I love the color combo and your quilting looks sweet! I have never quilted before either, and I'd probably use a similar method you used...that is going to be one lucky little girl! What a sweet thing for your boys to do.

You are so sweet having your kids take quilts to the kids at shriners. I love it.... The quilt is so cute... I wish with my first time I could be that creative.. Love it.

Are you kidding? It looks terrific! We haven't tried the quilting part either, so now you have inspired us. What pattern is it? Whoever receives this is one lucky little girl...

It's not really a pattern...I don't think...or it is and I didn't know about it. I just cut 5" by 5" squares to the size I desired (lap quilt) and added a 2" border. Easy as that!

I think it looks amazing! If you think that quilt is awful than I will never attempt quilting. You have a real natural talent!

It looks good to me. I am scared to even finish putting together the quilt I've been working on since last August {really?? didn't realize it's been that long until I typed it just now!}, let alone actually quilting it! And I think the black, white and pink is adorable! I'm sure who ever gets that quilt will love it!
